About Baizam

Grounded in Culture. Connected to Community.

At Baizam-Le, we believe the best outcomes are achieved when people feel heard, respected and included in the conversation.

Led by Kaleb Mabo, Baizam-Le works alongside organisations, governments and communities to create culturally informed pathways that build trust, strengthen understanding and deliver lasting impact.

Through years of working across community, government and corporate environments, Kaleb saw the difference genuine engagement can make. Baizam-Le was created to help organisations build stronger relationships, navigate cultural considerations with confidence and create outcomes informed by community voices.

As a proud Meriam and Dhungutti man, Kaleb brings lived experience, community connection and a deep understanding that meaningful engagement is not something done to communities, but alongside them.

Our work is grounded in respect, guided by lived experience and shaped by a commitment to authentic engagement.

The Mabo Legacy

The Mabo decision was more than a legal victory; it was a turning point for Australia. It acknowledged for the first time that this land was never Terra Nullius and that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a continuing connection to their country that must be respected.

Today, that legacy continues through Baizam-Le. We believe the strongest outcomes are achieved when relationships come first, communities are heard and decisions are guided by respect, trust and cultural understanding.

Kaleb's Journey

A Journey Shaped by Service, Community and Connection

Kaleb's journey has been shaped by service, leadership and a deep commitment to community. Each chapter has reinforced a simple belief: meaningful outcomes are built through trust, respect and genuine relationships.

Service & Community Leadership

Kaleb began his professional career serving for 13 years in the Royal Australian Navy. During this time, he developed strong leadership, communication and relationship-building skills while working across Australia and overseas.

Following military service, Kaleb worked across community development, youth engagement and education, before transitioning into Indigenous Affairs and stakeholder engagement. These experiences strengthened his understanding of the importance of listening, building trust and ensuring community voices remain at the centre of decision-making.

Community & Indigenous Affairs Leadership

Through leadership roles in community and stakeholder engagement, Kaleb has worked alongside communities, organisations and government partners to develop culturally informed initiatives and meaningful outcomes. This work has strengthened his ability to navigate complex environments while ensuring community voices remain at the centre of conversations and decision-making.

Advancing the Mabo Legacy

Kaleb's commitment to preserving and sharing the legacy of Dr Eddie Koiki Mabo has shaped much of his recent work.

He collaborated with the Mabo Centre at the University of Melbourne, contributed to national conversations on Indigenous leadership and engagement through keynote presentations at the AIATSIS Summit, and portrayed Dr Eddie Koiki Mabo in the ABC series Judgment Calls: The Changed Australia.

In 2021, Kaleb established and led the Dr Koiki Mabo Project, bringing together communities, stakeholders and supporters to restore the traditional home and final resting place of his grandfather. The project demonstrated the power of community-led engagement, strategic partnerships and shared purpose.

Founding Baizam-Le

Founded from the belief that relationships come before outcomes, Baizam-Le was created to support a different approach to engagement.

Through experience spanning Defence, Indigenous Affairs, community leadership and the preservation of the Mabo legacy, Kaleb saw the importance of building trust before seeking results.

Today, Baizam-Le partners with organisations to foster meaningful relationships, strengthen cultural understanding and ensure community voices guide decision-making.

The legacy opened the path. Our responsibility is to create impact today.
